FREEWRITE ARTICLE: What I Wish I Can Change About My Country || MORNING THOUGHTS
Good morning hivers, and how are you doing? I hope your previous day went well. I have come again to discuss about my country and what I can wish I can change about it.
To begin with, the name of the country is Nigeria and it is located in West Africa. It is popularly known as the Giant of Africa but sincerely, I don't see what is giant about it. I sincerely do believe it is a messed up country and needs a lot of changes.
What prompted this topic was because; yesterday night, my brother was having a group call with his nigerian friends, who had left for a foreign country. They were all saying the Nigeria and Nigerians are scams and full of scams.
Now, we have gotten to the point I am driving to. Nigeria is not actually popular for it being the giant of Africa but for the high scam rates from Nigeria.
The real problem is actually not the people making the scams but the people leading this country. They have laid a bad example which the youths are following.
One moment, we hear that a certain politician looted this amount of money, the next moment we would hear that another politician has stolen another sum of money. I think I would need to bring out the funny lies they make to steal from the country.
Can you believe that some time in 2018, a sum of $100,000 was reported to have been stolen by a snake. It was reported that the snake swallowed the money. I guess you would wondering how possible that is.
Let us kindly skip all that and say what is paining really me which is constant devaluation of our country. As of earlier this year, a dollar is being traded at a black market rate for 390naira/$ but now it is #470/$.
The prices of items either for consumption or use has risen twice as much, the national vat increased from 5% to 7.5%. Nigerians are blocked from receiving money on most finance apps and also blocked from the use of other apps or sites like Spotify.
MY WISH FOR MY COUNTRY
I don't have Nigeria but I definitely dislike how things are here and from what I have noted, the only way we can make things right is to start by changing those at the top.
I believe the high scam rates in this country would be lesser if we had leaders that don't constantly steal from its people and still don't get jailed for it.
My wish for this case is that the next elected leaders should be those more focused on the growth of the country than the personal wealth they attain when coming into power.
The high devaluation in naira has made living hard for so many. It has affected different aspects in life of every citizen; the business life, feeding, schooling etc.
I wish we can go back to the time in 2016 when the price of a dollar to naira was just 199naira/dollar.
The country has been given a black name which has made it hard for us home and abroad. If we mention that we are Nigerian, they give us the feel that all Nigerians are scammer.
My wish for this is having the next generation of youth to know that deceitful means to wealth is of no good and make them know that A GOOD NAME IS BETTER THAN GOLD. If all this wishes are answered, I believe Nigerians would have a greater chance to have a better life.
Thanks for reading. God bless 🙏😇❣️
