Everyone wants to reach their desired destination, and regardless of the path they select, they want to succeed. The thing about life is that it's always simple to picture the road to success as being a straightforward process before one sets out on it, during the planning or dreaming session, but it never really works that way. It always calls for much more than merely speaking, ruminating, or even making plans.

The majority of people talk about their ideal lives and their dreams of success. They fantasize and hallucinate that they will magically awaken and that all of their wishes would come true, but I have learned that this is not how it happens. It takes more than just magic for something of tremendous value to mysteriously appear on one's hand.

If you've ever wanted to do anything and have succeeded in getting there, congratulations. You would undoubtedly concur with me if I said that you did not succeed or arrive where you are by accident. You must have worked really hard to be where you are and to be successful.

I may be mistaken, but I'm confident that 99.9% of successful people didn't get that way by accident. Before becoming what they are, they must have worked in some capacity. It's probable that they never had a clear idea of who they would end up being at the beginning and had to have embarked on the road with a cloudy vision. The fact that they succeed does not imply that they did so inadvertently; rather, it indicates that they worked more to advance than to stay still.

This is something that I probably have mentioned in a prior piece, but it bears repeating. My notion of being successful is not chance, but a combination of opportunity that blends in with preparation; someone who is not prepared for combat cannot win a war when it comes along. Success is defined in this manner.

We are like the soldiers in our own lives, fighting for victory at every stage of life as we encounter various types of conflict. It is our responsibility to be ready for the future. Would you be able to recognize the smoke if it started to burn on the FIRE? The conflicts we engage in are what I refer to as opportunities that take the guise of difficulties and being able to see the smoke implies being able to anticipate when an opportunity might arise.

Being able to discover possibilities and provide solutions to people's issues or challenges would make one successful, but all of this does not come by accident, but rather by the effort that the individual must have put into himself. This is what I meant by "an opportunity to show forth to a prepared individual."

I am currently on a path to achieving a goal. I've questioned how folks were able to accomplish the same road I'm on, and I've considered the difficulties they must have endured on their way to success. I also considered that if they had not taken this same path, they would not have come across or been able to identify the opportunity they have now.

Right now, I am not giving up because I want to be successful, and as much as I daydream about arriving at my destination, I have determined that I will never arrive there by accident unless I put in the effort, unless I show up every day, and confront every difficulty that comes my way. I am desperate for success! The question is, Are you?
