HOW MUCH INFO CAN YOUR BRAIN TAKE IN FEW HOURS - EXAM PREP
The ability to store a lot of information on your brain in a short while is a very useful skill to student. This is the kind of ability I would love to build although, I can pretty much take in lots of information at once most especially before taking a test.
Today, I proved this ability to a test. I had an exam today in which I haven't read anything topic in the course. I had less than 12 hours to cram a whole syllabus of Engineering Mathematics for the section.
At first, I took the past question and found that I couldn't solve a single question from the past question. This is an exam that I have only few hours to study. I didn't know what to do, so I had to calm my nerves.
I knew I would not be able to utilize the 12 hours I had left I keep panicking. So I took the whole syllabus of almost 24 topics and started reading them one at a time.
Fortunately for me, I am better at cramming calculations compared to cramming text. The difference between these two is that in calculations, if you know the rules to solving most mathematical problems, it would be easy to follow step by step. It's just like opening new layer of onions still you have the most fresh part of it.
But compared to reading, it's not as easy as that for me. I would have to constantly memorize each definitions and points. Making notes after notes; rewriting definitions until it sticks like the way a chewing gum annoying sticks to a cloth.
The best way to memorize something is when you constantly repeat something over time and not in few hours because if not, one is prone to forget although it all depends on our brain capacity.
I was able to finish the reading the course syllabus 30 mins to the exam. I spent the whole 12 hours overnight on a chair studying and practicing each and every question in the course.
I looked at the past question and it looked like something I could finally attempt but yet, I didn't have enough time to try solving the past question.
I had to go write the exam in faith that I would do just very well. Funny enough, the exam came and it was just like a photocopy of the past question.
Then, I was hit. I should have solved the past question earlier. I was able to solve the questions given to me but I had forgotten a lot of things I studied during the 12 hours.
I saw familiar questions which felt so simple to my eye but yet I was feeling brain stressed and could not think well.
Then I realized that with the kind of preparation I made, it is kind of impossible to remember almost everything because I did not get the perfect time to memorize the methods of solving each questions.
Now, I would not be having any exams still Monday but this time, it would be a two calculation course. In order to memorize a lot for these courses, I have a lot of studying and memorization to do.
