HOW NERVOUS ENGINEERING DRAWING EXAMS MADE ME || A DIARY OF MY DAY

Today started in a nervous way for me. I was very much nervous about the exam I wrote; Engineering Drawing (course code: ABE 202). I am not someone who is good at technical drawing because I didn’t do it in Highschool which is also because there wasn’t a teacher to take the course.

Fortunately for me, the exam was an afternoon paper which gave me the time to meet up with friends that understand the course very well. I had met a 500 level Mechanical Engineering Student who took me on Interpenetration of solids and explained a little about Sectioning. I was with him for about an hour plus before I moved to another friend of mine to understand more on the topic CAM.

I spent another one hour with this second friend of mine who quickly briefed me about the drawing of CAM and also Auxiliary projection (view). The issue I had after all this explanation is, there was not enough time to practice what they thought me before the exam commenced. In fact, I had not bathed when it was about an hour to write my paper and my apartment is 30 minutes away from school.

I just had to rush home, took my bath and took all the necessary items for my exams most especially my Exam pass and I.D card because if not, I would not be allowed to write the exam. I was late to the exam hall which is expected, moreover, I got beaten a little by a not heavy rainfall which got my drawing board wet and my paper. I had to find something to clean the board and then use the paper like that (gladly, I folded two papers, the one inside was not really wet and was manageable to use).

On entering the exam hall, I was first attacked by the exam invigilator on why I am late. My head was scanning for excuses and I said it was because of the rain and the queue to enter the hall was long. The man still countered me back saying: “why didn’t you get here before the rain started and make it to the front of the queue?” I didn’t know what to say again then, I had to apologize for coming late.

I was given a special seat for my exam at the front of the exam hall. Damn!!! I was not happy about that because I had spotted a seat to stay beside a friend of mine who is badass in drawing but nevertheless, I hoped the question paper was something that I can handle myself without needing much assistance from my neighbour.

Then the question paper landed on my table few minutes after settling in front of the exam hall. Guess what, the first question was from CAM, then the second question came from Interpenetration of solids and development, third question came from sectioning and another interpenetration question, while the fourth question came from auxiliary view and true shape of a conic section.

The instructions given on the question paper was to answer only three question from what that was given. I was able to answer question 2, 3 and 4 but, the time was not enough for me to finish all the questions under each question number. I only did was I knew from them.

After the exam, I was glad that I was able to do something and not submitting an empty A2 drawing sheet. I know I cannot get an A in this course because I know what I did but hopefully, the worst of it all should be a C.
